Camp Lutherhaven

The COVID-19 pandemic has made a significant impact on Camp Lutherhaven. Please see the following information on how you can help support Camp through this unexpected time!

Camp Lutherhaven’s Response to COVID-19

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Lutherhaven had to close its doors to guest and retreat groups from mid-March through June of 2020. As things continued to worsen, Lutherhaven also made the difficult decision to cancel over half of its summer programming.

In order to save money and preserve cash flow, Lutherhaven cut non-essential staff, reduced hours, and turned off as many utilities as possible. The staff also applied and secured a PPP loan.

Lutherhaven is among a handful of camps to still open a partial summer camp in 2020. The Lutherhaven staff and board of directors worked hard to adopt new guidelines from the CDC and the American Camping Association, secure and train summer staff, and adapt programming, policies and facilities to accommodate a new and ever-changing COVID-19 environment. Because of this, we opened summer camp in early July for 3 wonderful weeks.

However, after the state wide mask mandate, Lutherhaven made another difficult decision to cancel its last 2 weeks of Camp. As we look to the fall and winter where we have school and other guest groups scheduled, it is looking more and more likely that they will either need to be postponed, cancelled, or their attendance will be reduced.

The Financial Impact on Lutherhaven

Like so many other ministries, businesses, and families, Camp Lutherhaven has been, and continues to be significantly impacted by COVID-19. Lutherhaven has already lost over $30,000 because of retreat and school group cancellations this spring and summer. However, an even larger effect is the loss of over half our summer camp programs. This is significant because 65% of Lutherhaven’s annual income comes from Summer Camp, so any lost weeks take an enormous financial toll. In all, Lutherhaven projects to be $150,000 to $250,000 below budget this year.

This is why we need your help this year more than ever! Your gift today (which can be doubled) helps bring relief to Lutherhaven’s 2020 financial challenges and helps us navigate Camp’s mission into the future where we will continue to create adventurous, faith-building experiences for children, youth, adults, and families that include recreation, God’s Word, group activities, Christian fellowship, personal growth, and of course, tons of fun!
