The Camp Lutherhaven Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Keith Peters as the next Executive Director.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
Keith “Cheezy” Peters has served Camp Lutherhaven as the Director of Summer and Youth Ministry for the past four years. During this time, he has deeply embraced and integrated Camp’s mission into his work and leadership, creating a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment.

The Camp Lutherhaven Board of Directors conducted a comprehensive national search for the Executive Director position, dedicating significant time to the process. This included extensive meetings, the development of position requirements, and consultation with experts in the field. Following a thorough review of numerous applications and candidate interviews, the Board recognized Keith Peters as the ideal choice, affirming God’s plan for both Camp Lutherhaven and Keith. The Board expresses its sincere gratitude for the prayers and support received throughout this process.
Keith Peters brings over 25 years of diverse ministry experience. His previous roles include Program Director at Lake Geneva Camps and Conferences, where he oversaw significant growth in middle and high school winter retreats, expanding participation from 200 to over 2,000 students in just five years. Prior to that, he served as Program Director and Interim Director at Walcamp Outdoor Ministries, where he successfully managed a staff team, providing guidance and fostering their faith and relationship with Jesus Christ. Other places of ministry include Fellowship of Faith (LCMS church) and Camp Lutherhoma.

As one recent summer counselor noted,
“Cheezy’s consistent spiritual encouragement was awesome. It is like nothing I have seen before. Whether his scripture passage was correcting, uplifting, or exactly what I needed to hear, I felt always supported and motivated by it. It was a constant reminder of the reason the staff are here and doing their job…for the glory of God and sharing His glorious deeds. I learned a lot from Cheezy whether he knew it or not.”
Keith follows in the footsteps of Tim Jank, who has faithfully led Lutherhaven as Executive Director for 32 years. Tim shared the following about Keith,
“It’s been a joy to get to know Keith and his family these past 4 years and catch his heart for outdoors ministry. I’m thrilled that Lutherhaven will be in such good hands! Keith’s past experiences, faithfulness to God’s Word, and diligence to the work God has called him will be a tremendous blessing to Lutherhaven’s mission and community.”
When asked about his new role at Lutherhaven, Keith shared,
“It is a true honor to be stepping into the position of executive director at Camp Lutherhaven. Under God’s guidance and spiritual direction over the past 32 years, Tim Jank has created a legacy worthy of celebration and admiration. I am thankful for His mentorship over the past four years. As Lutherhaven transitions to a new chapter of leadership, I am excited to build upon the foundation God has established through the incredible directors who have preceded me. Camp Lutherhaven is currently an impressive ministry for God’s Kingdom. And it is my vision that the Lutherhaven Staff and Board continue to advance Lutherhaven’s mission of “providing the setting resources to strengthen the faith of individuals and complement the ministry of churches.” As I contemplate leading Lutherhaven, I am affirmed to see how God has uniquely prepared me for this role and for His decision to bring my family to Lutherhaven. It is a humbling reminder that Lutherhaven’s future is not dependent on my might or power, but the real Leader and Director of Lutherhaven is God’s Spirit (Zechariah 4:6).”
Keith and his wife, Jana, have been married 17 years and have three daughters, Rose, Emily, & Autumn. Their family loves Lutherhaven and are looking forward to this new season of ministry and leadership. Keith’s other interests include logging miles either by running or cycling and drinking good coffee.
Looking Ahead
The future of Camp Lutherhaven is bright! The Board of Directors and staff look forward to continuing Lutherhaven’s mission and the positive impact it has on youth, families, and surrounding communities, spreading the Word of God, like a wildfire.
